# Fwozen
> Org-wide merge and deploy freezes for GitHub. Freeze on a schedule, from Slack,
> or the moment production breaks — with provable enforcement and an audit trail.

Fwozen is a GitHub App plus a web dashboard, Slack app, and REST API. It blocks merges
using a required check run named `fwozen`, blocks deploys with a `fwozen/deploy-gate`
check and a GitHub Action, verifies that the block is actually enforced by reading
GitHub's effective branch rules, and records every action with a real actor.

- If Fwozen is unreachable, the required check stays pending and merges wait — it fails safe, not open.
